Korean government's budget for R&D of Traditional medicine has gradually been increased. The government's budget related to Traditional Korean Medicine had been total 121 million dollars from 1994 to 2007. Especially from 2003 until now, The range of investment has been extended to many relevant authorities including KFDA (Korea Food & Drug Administration).

In 2008, Korean government has devised 'TKM R&D medium and long-term support & development plan' which covers developing strategy for next 10 years (from 2008 to 2017). The three implementing strategies of the plan are a base-setting for innovation of TKM R&D, an advancement of TKM R&D, a promotion of TKM industry. Korea is willing to achieve the vision, promoting human health and revitalization of TKM industry, through scientification of TKM.

The three main goals of Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine (KIOM) for next 3 years are to establish TKM Standards Research Center (TKMSRC), to develop new medical technology for preventing and treating chronic, incurable diseases and developing integrated TKM core technology.

KIOM is willing to become the leading institute for R&D of Traditional Medicine, contributing to enhance the quality of life for human being of the world, by developing TKM platform convergence technology.
